In the chapters, the Board of Directors is the counterpart of the Board of Governors. These volunteer leaders are either elected or selected during assemblies.

Service volunteers provide necessary manpower to ensure that the humanitarian work of Red Cross is achieved effectively reaching the most vulnerable in times of emergencies and disasters.

Sign Up and Volunteer Now!
Bagumbayanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03779335886846117486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837253134441952079.post-30596822707361577392010-05-11T14:23:00.001+08:002010-05-11T14:23:46.077+08:00Dick Gordon’s Post Election Statement

I would like to congratulate Sen. Aquino for his spectacular victory. I call upon this nation to unite and support him.

I would like to thank everyone who supported me especially my volunteers and those who gave up their limited resources as a manifestation of trust in my brand of leadership and track record.

I ran a very truthful, straightforward and candid campaign and thought we could run on the basis of our platform, track record and volunteerism.

I would like to congratulate all the winners and pray that they serve our country well.

We accept the will of the people.

Today, we have a victory for democracy with the successful exercise of our first nationwide automated election despite naysayers and doubters.

The fight for this country goes beyond this day. Let us forge on in building a Bagumbayan for our people.
Bagumbayanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03779335886846117486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837253134441952079.post-14093458899526747992010-05-09T08:38:00.013+08:002010-05-09T22:35:59.688+08:00Making our Voices Heard - Bagong Bayan, Bagong Kamalayan! I have never been so involved in Politics my entire life until this year. I am not a fan of politics because I am not impressed, I am not a believer and I don't want to be fooled over again. My old definition of a wasted vote is a vote that I've casted yet counted for another candidate because of cheating.

This year, shortly before the elections, DICK GORDON, came across as a different leader to me. Then the story goes. I had a renewed thinking process. This time, I see a leader that I believe in, whom I can count on even if he doesn't know me personally and this time, it is backed with personal experience of how Olongapo was. Thanks to Dick Gordon, my vote will not be wasted - win or lose, because within me I am already a winner. As Spencer Johnson, M.D. said in his book, Who Moved My Cheese,
"The Quicker You Let Go Of Old Cheese The Sooner You Find New Cheese. When You Change What You Believe, You Change What You Do!"

I am for change and so are the volunteers whom my husband and I met in the Cavite Motorcade yesterday.

Thanks to Dick Gordon, we found the value of volunteerism and thank you guys for making us feel so welcomed in the group even if we're new to this. I know and believe that we stand by the same principles and together we've made are voices heard. Our actions showed that we will not be taken away by traditional campaigns even if we don't have a lot of TV ads. Together, we still have conquered a lot. The more perspiration, the more rewarding the experience has been. We don't need to shout from the top of our voice to show that we are doing this from the heart. I am sure that the people who saw us, knew the modern definition of being a volunteer. From there alone, they should have seen why we campaign for Dick Gordon. A true leader wouldn't need money to mobilize people. If you inspire and motivate people, they will come to you voluntarily and give you their best. My husband and I came because we want to give the Philippines another shot for change. Our fellow volunteers are investing their time and effort because together we can make this change happen. We were amazed with how creative they were during the entire campaign. Not only that, I am most impressed by the WILL to simply make it happen, the WILL to make a STAND, the WILL to do some sacrifices.

You know what? Collectively, this WILL can make a HUGE DIFFERENCE. Dare to be different. Dare to stand for your true freedom. Dare to be a visionary. Dare to live in a better Philippines.

To my fellow volunteers yesterday, hats off to all of you. I have high respect for people like you. My husband and I would love to this over again with you guys.
Bong Antonio
Elgelaine Calva
Lelaine Calva
Leticia Calva
Lheo Dayumat
Gian Karl Fonte
Berns Galang
Janelle Ria Manalo
John Michael Manalo
Jorvy Mendoza
Jeruz Nuguid
Girlie Sapinoso
Raymond Sarinas
Doc Allan and Wife

And special thanks to my husband, Floyd for supporting me all the way. The same goes to my cousins and neighbors who have continued distributing the other campaign materials so that nothing is wasted and every single effort counts (Uchie, Maxene, Rara and friends) as well as to all other volunteers whose names I wasn't able to get and mention in case there are any. Have you made up your mind? There's no complicated formula - you only have to ask yourself. What do I expect my country to be in 6 years? What kind of future do I want to give my children and my parents when they become older? What kind of history do I want to be written this time?

If you'll ask me, it's clear to me what I really want. I want Gordon to be the next President. Why? Because I believe in change. I believe in Effective Leadership and I believe it's high time for every Filipino to embrace that change and start climbing that ladder to the top.

In my mind, back when I was still young, Gordon already had his history written and now that I'm an adult who has a greater understanding of things, I would want that history to continue because I know that the story haven't reached it's climax yet. There's more that he could offer if we give him a chance.

" yung anak mo papasok sa public school na
magaling ang teacher. the farmer will be protected. there will be no
brownouts. yung doctor mo magaling. pag nagkaproblema hahabulin ko yan
dahil maganda ang bayad ko dyan. the military will be proud. I will give
people options, choices. That's a preview of what I will do when I am
president." - Dick Gordon

That's what I want. That's my PRESIDENT!

With one goal, for the best Philippines, for the best future, let us all be for DICK GORDON.The Dreamer's Journeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04887436977818305849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837253134441952079.post-19460259688700124752010-05-06T15:37:00.001+08:002010-05-06T15:37:43.262+08:00Be a Volunteer Poll Watcher
Gwardyahan at Bantayan ang balota! Be a Volunteer Poll Watcher. With the testing runs of the PCOS machines experiencing problems, many people will use it to discredit the automated elections and try their best to persuade the COMELEC to go back to the manual process.

Those who get scared easily will of course believe right on. Whenever I encounter people who complain about the state of the COMELEC's preparedness (or unpreparedness, for that matter), I just try to calm them down and tell them that everything possible is being done to remedy the problems. It is entirely up to God's hands now.

Just today, I read a very interesting piece featured on GMA-7 which showed the selfless side of Sen. Dick Gordon.

They are both no nonsense politicians who are not afraid of losing votes because they actually do what needs to be done and says what needs to be said. IMO, what Sen. Gordon said is true "you dont need a (president) na mabait, you need a leader..a leader with integrity". In whatever you do, if you put your heart in it, fulfillment is the greatest reward that you'd ever receive.

I admire and salute the people whom in their own ways - big or small, did something to defend the vote that meant progress for the entire nation. I am proud of every Filipino who's not afraid to take a stand and make their voices be heard regardless of what the survey says. I am blessed to have team mates who share the same vision and who wouldn't just throw away their principle to give in to pressure. I am glad that there are still people who wouldn't stop believing. After all, it's what you believe in and what you do about it that matters. In the end, win or lose it's not going to be our loss because we knew we just stood up for what we believed in. I have looked at their biographies, experiences, track record and watched them in their guestings and interviews. To me, only one person stood out. While all the rest were so busy with their black propagandas, Dick was focused on his platforms. He's a man who didn't necessarily have the money and the popularity yet there's substance in what he's saying. When I was still little my Dad would often bring me to Olongapo City during summer vacations and as young as I am back then I have learned to appreciate discipline. I would often see something that says: "Aim High Olongapo City and Bawal ang Tamad Dito." Policemen were courteous to street vendors. Out of respect they follow their orders and would clear the sidewalks. Inside the market, there's no littering. I remember having thrown a small piece of trash in the floor and one of the "tinderas" picked it up politely and informed me that littering is not allowed. It was also easy for us to find our way from one place to the other because the jeepneys were color coded. There's just so much that inspired me even as a kid. When I grew up, I've seen Subic, WOW Philippines and how he has helped out in Red Cross. So those were my reasons why...

My principle isn't too complex as well, I believe that surveys couldn't dictate principled people who to vote for. We do not need to limit ourselves to choose from just two only because people instill in our minds that in the end there will only be two who would closely be vying for the Presidential post and that those people would be the top two candidates in the surveys. If everyone would think this way, I'm not sure where it would lead us in the end. Why can't we do what we need to? Why can't we choose? It's not true that we do not have a choice. We all have a choice. If you opt not to make a choice, then you make yourself contented to whatever was presented in front of you. Would that be sufficient? Anything less than the best is mediocre. Those who are open to change are ready to get this country to the next level.

Let's not settle for anything less than the best... Mediocrity isn't supposed to be our destiny. Do not be swayed, do not let anybody take that right from you. It's time to make the best choice, the choice that you truly believe can make a difference. It's time to take a stand...

While heading the underpass awhile ago feeling a little tension on my feet and simultaneously resisting the temptation to walk asleep, I asked myself, “Is my country worth this trouble?” I thought I might personally ask Pao. I am dead tired and I want an answer. So I said aloud, “Is our country worth this trouble?” Then he replied, “Our children deserve this.” I smiled.

Yes, that’s what I needed to hear…

I can’t actually bring myself into writing this article, for some reason I am having it thoroughly cooked inside my drained head, perhaps waiting for the right mood to finally pen my thoughts without the fear of not making sense. So today I am taking chance into penning down my frustration without sounding outwardly freakish. Anyway, we only have 2 weeks left and I might as well maximize the election hype. So here I go.
I am introvert, selectively shy, and a self-professed semi-apathetic. I was never active in school politics, more so with national though I am vocal about being a Filipino, whenever there is a chance to be proud to. I have a problem with expressing my thoughts; I’d rather pen it down. I never demand, I never complain, I wince from time to time but that’s the best whining I could do.

In short, I am nice- too nice. I guess I really am your typical low-esteemed Pinoy.
So the hype of campaign season is creeping all over the media in as early as October, I guess. I have no slightest intention to be involved. I am doing fine anyway, bunch of TRAPOs running again for the office; it is the same old Philippine story.

So Pao introduced me to Richard Gordon (I used to address him as Richard, err- Dick didn’t sound too decent, I thought.) and had me watched him on You-tube. I was hesitant, I was skeptic, I was afraid- perhaps afraid that I might find someone who will make me believe, I am afraid to fail. I took courage to watch him, how he brags about Subic, Olongapo, Wow Philippines and Red Cross. I saw what he did in Olongapo, how he turned it into a Model City, I saw what he did in Subic, how from scratch he made it a business hub in Asia, I can testify to the success of Wow Philippines because I used to hear a lot about how cool Intramuros was and I know the Wow Philippines song, “Tara na byahe tayo! Upang ating Makita ang ganda ng Pilipinas ang galing ng Pilipino.” (See?! ) I saw how he modernized Red Cross how they have more ambulances and rubber boats than our government can possibly provide. Then I thought, “Wow. He irrefutably succeeds in every field he’s on.”

So to be fair I tried to know the other candidates and this is the problem when you started with someone so successful you now set a standard, you won’t anymore settle. So no one compares as far as achievement is concerned. So I started as that, I thought it was drastic enough to find myself and Pao engaging in debates with people from the net that we don’t even know, I thought it was even more drastic to make our own flyers and distribute it to people in our school then we notched a little further by going to the Bagumbayan headquarters requesting for tarpaulins and campaign materials. Until we found ourselves in streets meeting incredibly passionate people, giving stickers, flyers, posters and saying, “Gordon at Bayani po, bumoto po tayo ng tama!”

In my perfect little world, I would never do that. I never beg to people, I never insist what I want, I never trust my judgment, I would settle for what is convenient. That was me, until someone made me believe that Filipinos are always worth the effort.

It would be so easy for me to just settle for the other candidates. At the end of the day, I would be fine with whoever would take the position. I graduated from a good school- I sure can make a decent living, I sure won’t eat from people’s scrap, I can go abroad and start a life there. But no, even if I change my surname, dye my hair, wear colored contact lenses and earn a greencard, I am still a Filipino and I can’t simply chicken out and run away. I’d rather stay here and see this country of mine progress. I want my children to grow up in a nation who has redeemed itself from constant failure, because it has matured, it has grown smarter through experience. I want a nation that is proud of itself. I no longer want a low-esteemed Pinoy, who only wince when offended, who cannot reason out because of lack of education. I want a nation that is well-aware of the rights, obligations and potential it has. I want a Singapore, I want a Lee Kuan Yew. But I chose to be stuck in the Philippines with impeccable hopes to whoever the electorate will hail victorious on May 10. I can’t simply tell myself, “I want a better country” and do nothing. So I told myself, “I want a better country and I will elect the right leader. No shame, no fear.”

Sometimes, after a long day of campaigning, Pao and I would joke about how we are supposed to be bar-hoppin’ instead of getting cheek-to-cheek with the poste around the metro. But as Senator Gordon has said, “Nothing good is easy to get.” I told Pao today, “If we only chose Noynoy and moreso Villar (or even Gibo), we could have been sleeping now, malakas naman yung makinarya nila e.” True enough they won’t be needing our service, they could simply hire people to do postering for them, they could easily inform people through their expensive commercials. It was so convenient. But if that happens I guess we are being deprived of knowing the beauty of volunteerism, I guess we would never be this passionate had we chosen the others.

So, if you suddenly had a new-found dignity in being a Filipino, you don’t let anyone deprive you of your rights, you try to be as competitive as possible, you believe in leadership by example and you do not please people just so they believe in the same way that you do.

Well, you have just been hit by the Gordon Effect.

Congratulations.

P.S.
Keep aiming high my well-loved Philippines.
Bagumbayanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03779335886846117486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837253134441952079.post-20194005775022819162010-05-03T13:46:00.001+08:002010-05-03T13:49:17.869+08:00“The Day Words Spoke Louder than Actions” by Justin Posadas
Featuring a well-written post made by Justin Posadas on Facebook.

I’ve just read Patricia Evangelista’s article on Dick Gordon here, and this is what I have to say about that.

In that article, she did not fail to include that Dick Gordon “has an impressive resumé.” Well, it’s true, and I’m glad she said that. But it’s easy to use an all-encompassing phrase such as that to bag all of Sen. Gordon’s countless number of unselfish deeds done for our country, and then at a flick of a switch, nitpick on his character based on half-baked knowledge about him. By the way, I thank her for admitting that she “never met Gordon before the election season.” If what is in question is Dick Gordon’s character as a leader for this country, he has already proven it through his track record. In an imperfect world such as this, actions still speak louder than words….

These are the final days of the electoral campaign, and everyone running is up and about putting themselves up on the pedestal, and no matter how this self-beautifying act may come out, we cannot fault Dick Gordon for showing off his laurels—after all, that’s what campaigning is all about, right?

Now is the time to tell the people what you have done, not what you can do, which has yet to be proven. And there’s no time to prove it if you’ve done nothing, like some candidates. It’s only natural that you come out as a braggart when you’ve already ticked off more than enough tasks on the other candidates’ future to-do lists.

“Presidents are not exempt from humility, and those who think they are end up tyrants and dictators.” This is a very slippery slope, not that I'm agreeing that Mr Gordon isn't humble. I don't think he even realizes that he brags if he does so because he just does what needs to be done. What ultimate test of humility do you need from Mr Dick Gordon who pulls victims of calamities out of rubbles, rescues babies trapped in fallen buildings, trudges in dirty floodwater to save human lives (and not to take a bath in, unlike one popular candidate)?

What in the history of Dick Gordon tells you that he will be a tyrant? Ask any of his constituents in Olongapo. They will not say anything ruinous about him. And this is not because he has an iron fist wrapped around their necks. This is because they are volunteers who offered themselves for the ideal that Subic is right now. It is not fear that drives them but a deeply rooted respect for the man who is their inspiration to do good.

What have the others done anyway? Would you rather hear promises (said in the negative) of a future we will have (“Hindi ako magnanakaw.”) or proof of what has already been done in the past and what could be replicated on a larger scale tomorrow? We cannot nail someone on the cross just because he’s saying what should be said at a crucial moment.

As for the incident at RockEd and his “howling at his interviewer for calling him a coward,” you tell me, how must a man react when he is called a “coward”? See, here comes the media inviting a candidate as a guest, stealing a bit of his campaign time to grace his presence in their studio, and in the middle of the interview he is rudely challenged by a person who has done nothing in comparison to make the Philippines a better place. If I were insulted, I’d put him in his place with my fists. I’d have done something worse, but Mr Gordon thought the better and shut him up with mere words, not actions. In fact, the incident gives me more impetus to vote for him. I’d like a leader who can stand up for our people, someone who is proud of what the Philippines is and can be.

If there is any one body that has had its head in the clouds since day one, it’s the people in media. Is it not true that media is a powerful tool that shapes people’s minds? Is it really crazy to claim that the powers-that-be in ABias-CBN have already twisted the public mind in favor of who they want us to vote? I think it’s clear to Ms Evangelista that the media is very much tainted when she stated that she isn’t voting for Gordon because “Noynoy Aquino’s parents were allied 20 years ago with the TV station [she] write[s] for today.” Clearly, there is color in media.

This bias doesn’t just fester in television, it’s in radio, newspaper columns (such as the one hers came from), and published surveys. Media is the monster we need to tame but cannot. It feeds on money. And that is fact. To question where the money came from is not crazy talk. It’s just logical to do so.

Logic also tells us that the language between friends is something they share amongst themselves, alone. To misquote someone or to quote someone out of context is unbecoming of a good reporter. Bayani and Dick kid around, and it’s only human to do so. They will say things and smile at each other on tape, like most people do when they’ve noticed the camera is still rolling. I get their jokes, and I allow them that because they’ve earned my respect as leaders who have changed the communities they’ve governed for the better.

In a nutshell, what Ms Evangelista has implied in her article is that she will not vote for Gordon because he is a boastful jackass. I respect her opinion; anyone can have their own. But I hope she respects mine when I say that her basis for judging character is frail, rash, and lopsided. It is frail because she does not know him. It is rash because she makes judgments based on isolated events involving the media without understanding the reason behind his passion to present his argument. It is lopsided because she is a part of this tainted media machine.

I’m NOT ready to give up my vote for someone who vows he will NOT do something (like steal, for instance). I’d vote someone who says he will DO SOMETHING because he ALREADY DID IT if I really want change to happen. I don’t want someone who will merely “watch over the laws”. I want someone enforcing them. For change to take place, action must be done.

On the day words speak louder than actions, I’d be voting for the "poor guy" who claims to have swam the oceans of sewers like it's a prerequisite for office to reek of garbage. On the day words speak louder than actions, I’d also be voting the uninspiring push-over of a guy forced to run because a swarm of vultures surrounding him thought it was an opportunity and not a responsibility to lead a nation.

What ultimate test of humility do you need from Mr Dick Gordon who pulls victims of calamities out of rubbles, rescues babies trapped in fallen buildings, trudges in dirty floodwater to save human lives (and not to take a bath in, unlike one popular candidate)?
Bagumbayanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03779335886846117486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837253134441952079.post-47262301600654935742010-05-03T11:04:00.001+08:002010-05-03T11:22:58.606+08:00“Why Dick Gordon” by Markus Matters
Featuring an entry from Mark’s Markus Matters blog.
